Directives are elective instructions to ImageEngine for overriding the automatic decisions. The override directives use the image URL. In most cases, it’s best to leave the discussions to ImageEngine. For example, if you explicitly ask for an image to be served as webp, all devices will get webp, even those not supporting it. However, if there are cases where you need explicit control, directives will save you.

The ImageEngine directive tool allows real-time manipulation of the image parameters with an easy to use interface.   Using the browser developer tools will provide the actual URL which is generated.
